Megan Thee Stallion as Mother Fitness, in purple, in a smoky gym

Planet Fitness committed to every body in the most judgmental month of the year. With Megan Thee Stallion as Mother Fitness, throwing out the shame playbook.

A New Year platform · a hero film directed by Calmatic, TV, an AR filter, merch and a workout series.

January is make-or-break in fitness, and the New Year playbook had curdled into guilt, shame and unrealistic body goals.

Planet Fitness, the Judgement Free Zone, answered with Megan Thee Stallion as Mother Fitness: a purple, ethereal patron saint for everybody and every body.

The stakes

January was loud, predictable and built on shame.

Every gym pulled the same New Year lever: guilt. Planet Fitness needed to cut through the seasonal noise for people who wanted motivation, inspiration and humanity, not another lecture about their body.

Mother Fitness

Not a resolution. A revolution.

Megan Thee Stallion arrived as Mother Fitness, saving workouts from toxic instructors, shady scammers and fitspo fakes. The hero spot, directed by Calmatic, launched December 28, 2023 for the New Year.

Instead of pushing weight loss, the campaign championed joy, strength and confidence, and made Planet Fitness the unapologetic home for anyone walking in on January 2nd.

The platform

Big Fitness Energy, for all.

The idea ran past the film: an AR filter, a Judgement Free merch collab, a Body-Ody-Ody workout series. Big Fitness Energy For All, printed straight on the shirts.

It launched as a New Year push and became one the brand returns to. A platform, not a stunt.

The energy

A gym ad the internet decided it loved.

The campaign earned its impressions instead of buying them, and the sentiment moved with the reach, in the most cynical ad month of the year.
